Plug Power to supply GenEco electrolysers to Carlton Power’s Barrow green hydrogen project

With our partner, Schroders Greencoat LLP, we have selected Plug Power to supply its GenEco PEM electrolysers for our Barrow Green Hydrogen project. The contract award to Plug Power is subject to a Final Investment Decision for the project, which we expect to make before the end of the year.

Plug Power Inc. is a global leader in comprehensive hydrogen solutions for the hydrogen economy and will enter an equipment supply and long-term service agreement (LTSA) for Barrow and two other green hydrogen projects.

The Barrow hydrogen project will feature six 5 MW Plug Power GenEco Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers using renewable electricity to generate hydrogen. Under a secured offtake agreement with Kimberly-Clark, the 30MW plant will supply green hydrogen to the company’s nearby manufacturing facility, significantly reducing carbon emissions across its operations.

Eric Adams, Hydrogen Director at Carlton Power said: “This collaboration with Plug Power is a cornerstone of our strategy to deliver reliable, renewable power for UK manufacturers. Partnering with Plug Power ensures we’re combining proven technology with long-term investment and operational expertise. We're developing projects at Barrow and elsewhere in the UK that set a new standard for scale, performance, and sustainability in green hydrogen production, and furthering the UK’s industrial decarbonization.”
